Pietro Lo Casto
b. 1986, Bologna, Italy. Lives and works in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Pietro is interested in the potential of contemporary art to function as an archaeology of the invisible and its ability to reveal layers of hidden truths present in landscapes that have been marked by a multifaceted history of extraction. Drawing on his previous experience in the marketing sphere, Lo Casto's artworks explore, and aim to contribute to a reflection on, the role that images play in shaping our worldview and how they are used to hide practices of exploitation behind narratives of progress.
He has developed a research-driven artistic practice that is grounded in cultivating deep relationships and experiences with research sites, collaborating with diverse knowledge producers, and thinking through a multiplicity of mediums and materials to translate new connections in space.
